Sample writing

I have several published short stories and articles, along with research work and countless other assignments. Below are a few samples.

Penumbric Speculative Fiction Magazine
I wrote several articles for Penumbric between 2002 and 2004, including an interview with the director and one of the writers for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (924 KB), an in-depth look at the potential of virtual idols (172 KB), and a feature article on the state of cyberpunk as a genre (281 KB). Sadly, the magazine is defunct and no longer online; however, you can click on the above links to see pdfs of those articles.

The Telecommunications Virtual Museum
I researched and wrote several science articles for the Telecommunications History Group and the TVM partnership in 2004-2005 (some of these articles still exist online as the 2018 entries in the Telecom History section of the THG blog. I also contributed extensively to their "Bell System Palace" exhibit in 2006.

Greening Garbage Trucks research
In both 2004 and 2005 I was asked by Energy Futures, Inc. to research the use of natural gas powered garbage trucks in the United States; this was for a publication put out by INFORM, Inc. in each of those years. While my actual writing did not appear as such, this was an extensive research assignment. This publication is not available on the web, so I cannot provide a link.

AI Personality Engine research
Research on the Big Five theory of personality (and other elements of personality and psychology) from 2011 to 2013 for my dissertation and a commercial product (the Extreme AI Personality Engine). This research lead to two academic papers, "NPCs as People, Too: The Extreme AI Personality Engine" and "NPCs Vote! Changing Voter Reactions Over Time Using the Extreme AI Personality Engine," available on arxiv.org.
